Beatty Park, where Paralympian Josh Hofer OAM trains regularly with the City of Perth Swimming Club, is at the heart of his current Guinness World Record attempt.

Hofer, a long-time City of Perth Swimming Club member and club ambassador, is aiming to become the first swimmer to compete in every swimming club competition within a single year. The ambitious challenge spans 32 club competitions, with Hofer already completing ten swims. He's aiming to complete this target by April this year.

A highly decorated Paralympian, Hofer represented Australia at the 1992 Paralympic Games in Madrid and Barcelona, where he won an extraordinary 11 medals (five gold, four silver and two bronze) and set four world records. He was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in 1993 for his contribution to sport and has remained involved in swimming ever since.

City of Perth Swimming Club President Ingrid Iaschi said Hofer’s record attempt reflects his lifelong commitment to the sport and its community.

“We’re incredibly proud of our club ambassador Joshua Hofer OAM, who has been a valued member of the City of Perth Swimming Club for nearly 20 years,” Ms Iaschi said.

“Joshua is currently on an inspiring journey, visiting clubs as he chases a Guinness World Record. Along the way, he’s sharing his story, showcasing his medals, giving back to clubs and motivating swimmers of all ages. He’s a fantastic ambassador for swimming, particularly multi-class swimming in WA, and we’re so proud to support him on this incredible challenge.”

Beyond competition, Hofer is widely recognised for his dedication to volunteering and advocacy. In 2023, he received the Swimming WA Awards of Excellence President’s Award for his outstanding service to clubs across the state. He has also served as a club captain, committee member and Swimming WA ambassador, roles he describes as opportunities to be a role model and leader within the sport.

Now in his 50s, Hofer continues to train regularly at Beatty Park alongside City of Perth Swimming Club squads and remains passionate about the social connection and sportsmanship that club swimming offers.
