The City of Vincent will be containing asbestos around the window seals in the Beatty Park grandstand as a precaution to ensure it’s safe and sound for years to come.
The grandstand has been closed to the public since 2011.
An inspection was done last year, which identified further deterioration of the windows.
The works, which will only be happening on the upper floor, will commence on 28 July and are expected to be completed by late 2025. It will involve cleaning and sealing the affected areas.
Scaffolding and screening will be installed around the site to minimise the disruption to centre users. There is no risk to the public and the centre will remain open.
Some footpaths may be temporarily unavailable on the south-eastern end of the centre due to the installation of scaffolding.
Pedestrians are encouraged to take caution and seek alternate access when directed, during the building and removal of scaffolding.
The outdoor pool lighting will stay on overnight during night works, which are scheduled to take place from 28 July to 8 August.
The creche’s outdoor play area will be closed from early September due to a scaffold being installed in the area so that the nearby windows can be fixed.
The aim of the project is to ensure staff and contractors can continue to safely undertake essential maintenance works in the grandstand.
