Introducing our January Member of the Month – Eddie!

Eddie joined us in early 2016 after moving to Perth in late 2014. He’s a familiar face in our Throwdown classes, so we spoke to him about what keeps him coming back.

What motivates you to exercise so frequently?

I used to play a lot of rugby but injury and age curtailed that and Beatty Park fills the void.

I enjoy Throwdown and try to push myself every class and am motivated by seeing positive results. I aim for 4-6 classes a week presently. I love eating out so I attend to try and keep the weight off and generally keep fit.

Tell us more about your fitness routine and why is it important for you?

I enjoy Throwdown, especially Colin’s early morning classes (would love more 540am classes) as this fits well with work at present and I try to make evening Grit when I can. When I worked shifts my routine was a lot more varied including Bodypump and Boxing as well as using the upstairs gym, pool and sauna area much more.

What do you like about Beatty Park?

The classes, class times, trainers and people. The class times are super convenient for me at present but if my work pattern changes then there’s a good variety of things to do with Beatty Park’s “everything under one roof” ethos.

My partner is the first person I met when I started boxing classes in 2016, so I can thank Beatty Park for that too.

What is your favourite thing to do when you’re not at Beatty Park?

Team sports, especially rugby, have always been a big part of my life and once I stopped playing I found myself in a bit of a sporting limbo so started playing Roller Derby in 2018 and in the past 6 months have taken up Street Roller Hockey. Having never roller skated before this was extremely challenging but is a lot of fun!
