ETIQUETTE
Whether you're sweating it out in the gym or lapping the lanes in the pool, there are a few things to remember when working out at Beatty Park.

Gym Etiquette 🏋️♀️
- No towel, no workout
- Towels are mandatory. Your towel must be large enough to cover a gym bench
- Place your towel on the equipment before use and use it to wipe down afterwards
- Body fats and oils can increase the breakdown of leather upholstery and also prematurely wear out moving parts
- Please wipe down equipment after use. This helps improve hygiene for all members by assisting reduce the transfer of bacteria from equipment to skin. Disinfectant wipes are provided throughout the gym
- Wear clean, closed-in shoes
- Appropriate footwear safeguards against injuries
- Closed-in shoes are also more hygienic - nobody enjoys the smell of smelly feet!
- Work boots are not appropriate
- Rerack your weights
- As a courtesy to all members, put your weights back on their rack ready for the next person
- If you can lift it, you can put it back!
- This allows gym instructors to concentrate on helping members instead of tidying up
- Don't drop your weights
- If you can pick it up, you can put it down!
- Dropping weights can damage the equipment
- Dropping weights can be dangerous for others around
- If you do need to release a heavy bar or dumbell (ie; deadlift) go as low as you can safely, then let go in a controlled manner
- Use a spotter if required - our gym staff are happy to help!
- "Work in" at peak times
- We get busy and lots of people want to work out at the same time. Be thoughtful and take turns if someone asks you to 'work in'
- You never know - you might make a friend!
- Respect personal space
- Not only is it uncomfortable to exercise in close proximity with a stranger, it can be dangerous; one failed attempt at an overhead press could spell broken feet for both of you!
- Mind your volume
- Other members don't want to hear your music... or your grunting!

Group Fitness Etiquette 🎶
- No towel, no workout
- Let your instructor know if you're new
- If you haven't done the class before, making yourself known ensures the instructor can keep an eye on your form and offer tips
- Arrive on time
- We recommend arriving five minutes early to set up
- No entry is permitted five minutes after scheduled start time
- Mind your volume
- Be respectful of others trying to hear the instructor
- Be respectful to the instructor by listening to and following their prompts
- Avoid talking between tracks - people are still trying to listen to the instructor
- Take phone calls outside the studio
- Catch up after class if you've got lots to chat about!
- Wear clean, closed-in shoes

- Shoes are not required for yoga, pilates or Bodybalance classes

- Leave the studio ready for the next class
- Wipe down equipment after use - spray bottles and paper towels are available in the studios
- Put equipment back where you got them

Spa Sauna & Steamroom Etiquette 🧖
- Shower first
- Please shower before entering the spa, sauna or steam room
- We recommend you sit on a towel in the sauna and steamroom
- This helps ensure your spot isn't super sweaty for the next person
- Never use oils or grooming products
- Do not pour oils on the sauna elements
- Do not shave or shampoo
- Never relieve yourself in the spa sauna or steamroom or on the balcony
- Restrooms are located less than 50 metres away
- Be respectful
- Maintain your distance and respect personal space
- Mind your language and volume
- Do not make conversation in the Silent Sauna
- Never stare at others
- Appropriate swimwear must be worn (underwear can not be worn as swimwear)

Lap Lane Etiquette 🏊♀️
- Choose your lane wisely
- Select a lane appropriate to your swimming ability and speed
- Keep left
- Swim to the left of the centre black line
- Maintain a clockwise direction
- If you need to pass, pass on the right
- Slower swimmers should give way to faster swimmers
- When resting, stay in the far left of your lane to allow other swimmers to turn
- Be respectful
- This is a community facility, please consider others
- Appropriate swimwear must be worn (underwear can not be worn as swimwear)
