How to make the most of your gym membership

Whether you’re into sets and reps, swimming, cycling or sitting in a sauna, there’s plenty you can do with a full centre membership at Beatty Park.

If you’re already part of the family or have been thinking about joining, here’s how to get the most bang for your buck.

Ask for a fitness appraisal & personalised program

Heads up – as a full gym + swim member, you’re entitled to a complimentary fitness appraisal and personalised program every 8-10 weeks!

In your fitness appraisal, you’ll chat to one of our gym instructors about your fitness goals, what you like doing, what you don’t like doing and where you’re at in general.

Then, you’ll meet up another day to go through your very own personalised gym program – minus any lunges if you said you weren’t so keen. Your instructor will show you the ropes, with a few tips and tricks to help you get going.

We offer this to every member, and we send reminders when it’s time for a reassessment. Our gym instructors know their stuff, so definitely take us up on the offer!

Try a new group fitness class

If you’re stuck in a gym or swim rut, then it might be time to jump on the group fitness bandwagon.

Now, you might think you prefer working out solo – but you don’t know till you give it a go!

With over 100 group fitness classes every week, there’s something to suit everyone.

Want to burn bulk calories? Try BodyCombat or BodyAttack.

Want to build muscle? Try BodyPump or Les Mills Core.

Want an epic HIIT workout? Try Grit or Throwdown.

Want to dance and forget you’re even working out? Try Zumba or BodyJam.

Seriously – we’ve got you covered. You can check out our timetable and list of classes here.

And don’t be intimidated – everyone’s new at some point. Just let your instructor know and they’ll make sure to give you options, if you need them.

Take a dip

Some say swimming is the perfect workout. Not only is it both cardio and strength training, it’s low impact and non-weight bearing, so your risk of injury is pretty low.

At Beatty Park, every membership comes with access to all our aquatic areas.

We have three outdoor pools, and once our indoor pool reno is done (expected August 2021), we’ll have five in total. So use them!

If you decide to do some laps, you can take your pick from 50 metres, 30 metres or 25 metres.

Or if you’re just learning to swim, we’ve got a shallow pool outside and a newly renovated water playground inside.

We even have a range of aqua aerobics classes for those that want the best of both worlds.

Let off some steam

Our spa, sauna and steam room area is the perfect place to unwind after a workout. Some of our members come just to use this space!

Most people have a preference for either the spa, sauna or steam room – but using all three is the way to go.

First, sit in the sauna. Ours is made of cedar wood and is set between 70°C and 90°C. You’ll sweat – a lot – and release all the impurities from your skin and pores.

Next, have a quick shower before entering the steam room. In here, it’s cooler – but still very hot – at 40°C. You’ll keep on sweating, while letting go of all those dead skin skills.

Then, have another quick shower to rinse off all the dirt and sweat.

Finally, slip into the spa. In here, it’s around 35°C. The jets will massage your muscles, and you can just be.

Drop the kids at the crèche

If you’re a stay at home mum or dad, there’s no reason you can’t still get your sweat or swim on at Beatty Park.

Not only is our crèche decked out with fun toys, all our staff are fully trained to care for kids. So while you look after you, you can rest assured the little ones are looked after too.

Our crèche hours conveniently line up with our most popular group fitness classes.

Plus, the crèche is also open on Saturday mornings! Bookings are essential though, so get in touch if you’d like to sign your child up.
