Congratulations to Katherine Ryan, one of our Beatty Park instructors, for winning her age group at the ITU Duathlon World Championships in Canada.
Katherine is a mother of four and has been involved in running, triathlons and duathlons for many years.
In August and September she travelled to Canada and Netherlands to compete and represent Australia.
At the ITU Duathlon in Canada she was one of 3,000 competitors who took on a 10km run, 40km cycle and 5 km run. She powered home to win the 45-49 year old age group by 4 seconds, despite a 2 minute penalty delay.
At the podium after the event, she got to hold up the Australian Flag – what an incredible feeling that must have been!
Shortly after her win, Katherine travelled to Rotterdam to compete in the ITU Standard Triathlon World Championships and take on a 1.5km Swim; 40km Cycle; 10km Run. Katherine came 7th in her age group which give her a world ranking.
Now back in Perth, it all starts again – with the Duathlon and Triathlon season starting. Most recently she won her age group and came second overall in the National State Duathlon Championships in Armadale.
Katherine’s focus next year is to race in the ITU Standard Triathlon World Championships on the Gold Coast and GO FOR GOLD!
Katherine is a wonderful role model and committed athlete.
If you see Katherine at Beatty Park or take one of her Aqua Fitness classes, be sure to say congratulations and ask her about her experience.
