A more sustainable Beatty Park

In the last 6 months we have halved the amount of waste going to landfill.

Working together with the City’s Waste Management Team, we identified an number of ways we could tackle waste. One area to improve on was single use plastics in the café by providing incentives for people to bring their own reusable cups and introducing compostable cutlery and crockery.

Beatty Park is the first commercial premises to adopt food waste recycling in the City of Vincent. The compostable crockery and cutlery and food waste in the general bins are sent to a Resource Recovery Facility, where any organic components of the bin are removed for composting, before the remaining non-organic waste is sent to landfill.

There are more waste management initiatives planned for the coming year, which will be rolled out in stages. For more information contact the City’s Waste Management Team on 6273 6000.
